Where can I find transcripts of your show?

We appreciate your interest in using transcripts to help follow along with our audio content. Clickable transcripts of our podcast episodes are available to read on our Zencastr website. Some websites generate unlicensed transcripts of podcasts and package them as part of paid services. These transcripts are not authorized by the copyright owners of the podcast content, including us. Please do not support any commercial service that sells infringing transcripts.

Is this a Pokémon fan podcast?

Yes! We are huge fans of Pokémon, and our show features original characters and settings inspired by the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon video games. However, we also draw inspiration from a wide range of other gaming and pop culture sources, including Dungeons & Dragons, Batman, and KPop Demon Hunters.

What game system do you use?

We use a homebrew system originally created for our sister show Not A Scratch by its DM, Anirudh. The Not A Scratch system combines game mechanics from Dungeons & Dragons (a.k.a. the d20 System), Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, the Pokémon main series, and other homebrew Pokémon tabletop systems.

What's the relationship between Not A Scratch and Mystery Dungeon: A Path Through Time?

Not A Scratch is our parent podcast, which started in summer 2020 and has finished its seventh campaign arc. It takes place in the Alchas region, a world that is inhabited only by Pokémon and is divided into eight states. Mystery Dungeon: A Path Through Time is a spin-off show that is set in Alchas 20 years before the events of Not A Scratch. We are licensed to use the same setting and game system (though we've made some modifications), and if you listen closely, you might notice some connections between the characters in PTT and Not A Scratch.

Do you folks use physical or digital dice?

We use a mix of both! Some of us co-hosts prefer physical dice because they're more fun to roll and enhance the listening experience, and some of us use digital dice rollers as a substitute.

How can I submit a character, location, or other idea to your show?

You can submit character ideas by posting in the #character-submissions channel in our Discord server. Our DM, Dakota, occasionally chooses fan-submitted characters to be featured in the show. Your character's significance in the story could be anywhere from a character of the day to a major, recurring NPC.

Please note: When you submit a character, you retain full ownership of your character and are free to use them in your own creative works. However, you give us a non-exclusive license to use your character on our show.

May I use your characters in my own stories, fan art, or comics?

We encourage you to create and share fan works inspired by our show! We think fan works are a legitimate form of creative expression (otherwise, we wouldn't be here!) and a wonderful way to engage with our content.

We believe that fan works qualify as fair use, particularly when they are non-commercial or transformative (and that includes fan works of fan works, hehe). In addition, copyright generally doesn't protect the name or general idea for a character or setting, only the author's particular expression of that idea. That said, if you're interested in using a character from our show, we encourage you to respect the creator's personal preferences about how their characters are used — they might be able to give you advice on how to best represent their characters in your story.

If you'd like to share your fan works online, you can post them on our Discord server or on social media — remember to tag us so we can see them! We recommend posting fan art and comics in our Discord's #fan-art channel, or uploading fanfics to platforms like Archive of Our Own and dropping a link in the #writing-club channel.

Please note: Although our characters are original to us, their visual designs have separate copyrights that are owned by The Pokémon Company, Game Freak, and their affiliates. We can only give you permission to use material to which we own the rights. If you make or share fan art of PTT, be sure that your use of the underlying species designs or other visual elements of the Pokémon franchise is a fair use.

This is not legal advice. If you would like to learn more about fan works, copyright, and fair use, we recommend these resources from the Organization for Transformative Works and the Authors Alliance.
